Uttarakhand High Court Bans Water Sports in the State
Uttarakhand High Court has banned all water sports and activities including river rafting, paragliding in the State till policy has been framed by the State to regulate such activities.
The High Court’s order came in a PIL by a resident of Rishikesh who alleged that the temporary structures were being set-up on the Banks of the River Ganga and entities carrying on water sports on the River were flouting norms. Subsequently, the High Court in it’s June 18 order had directed the State to prepare a transparent policy for regulating such sports activities within two weeks.
While banning water sports the Court remarked that sports for pleasure cannot be permitted to end in disaster.
