Retired Gujarat HC Judge, PP Bhatt new Income Tax Appellate Tribunal President
Gujarat High Court former judge, Justice PP Bhat has taken charge as the President of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT). Justice PP Bhat retired last month from Gujarat High Court.
The ITAT oldest Tribunal in India set-up in 1941 and often known as the mother tribunal in India. Huge number of tax litigations involving around Rs 1.5 lakh crore in the form of 90,000 appeals is currently pending before Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, which is a final fact-finding authority as far as income tax matters are concerned having 73 benches of tax tribunal at 28 locations across the country.

In 2003 PP Bhat was appointed the Registrar of the Gujarat High Court. Later, on the creation of the Registrar General post, he became the first Registrar General of High Court of Gujarat.
In February 2011, Justice PP Bhat was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Gujarat High Court. In June that year, he was transferred to the Jharkhand High Court. He was re-transferred back to the Gujarat High Court in February 2016. He retired from Gujarat High Court on September 6, 2018.
