Plea filled against Delhi University for 2.5% deduction in cases of stream change
Petitioner Jyoti Singh filled a petition through the law firm Parens Patrice in the Delhi HC who scored 96% in best four subjects in the science stream and wanted admission in Delhi University’s B.A(Hons.) political science . But as per Delhi University’s current system for admission for undergraduate courses for year 2019-20, a deduction of 2.5% marks is provided if a student chooses a course different from his/ her stream in class XII.
The petitioner claims that this deduction in the percentage is arbitrary and discriminatory. the Delhi HC has issued notice to the university to file its response within one week, the court also said that if the petitioner succeeds in her claim she should be awarded admission as per her final marks and ranking in the merit list. The next date of hearing is July 5.
