AG K. K. Venugopal expressed his dissatisfaction with the approach of the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi for dismissing petitions without giving adequate opportunity Of hearing.
When AG appear for a case, Justice Gogoi was inclined to dismiss it. However, AG Venugopal put his foot down.
“People come to this court after travelling thousands of miles and Your Lordships don’t even hear their arguments and dismiss cases saying you have read it.
This is not the way, at least at admission stage they should be heard“, said Venugopal.
CJI Gogoi acceded to the request and said,
“Alright Mr. Venugopal. We take your statement in the right spirit. You may now argue“.
AG K.K. Venugopal appearing for one of the SLP pending in Supreme Court, petitioner has challenged the Constitutional validity of Entry Tax Act and the demand raised under its provisions by the Commercial Taxes Department of the state of Rajasthan.
