BMCC Pune: Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce announces a lecture as well as the moot court competition in memory of Late Shri Vijay Chavan, Assistant Professor in our college.
Moot court competition rules
Date: 16th Feb 2019.
Venue: Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (Autonomous), Pune.
The competition will be conducted in two sections; Law and Commerce. Teams from Law Colleges will compete against Law College teams and teams from Commerce College will compete against commerce college teams. There are separate prizes for Law and Commerce Sections.
Language: The written and oral submissions shall be in English only.
Eligibility: Undergraduate students of recognized Law /Commerce Colleges/Institutes/University
Dress Code: As per the rules of The Bar Council of India (i.e. White shirt, black trouser, blazer Black color)
Team Composition: The team should consist of two Mooters and one Researcher only.
Registration: The teams must register on or before 07/02/2019.
Registration Fees: Rs. 200 per team
Bench: The Bench will comprise of two judges.
Memorials
- Four copies of each side (Plaintiffs and Defendant or Appellant and Respondent), spiral bound memorials.
- The cover page of the Memorial must follow color scheme i.e. Blue for Plaintiffs/Appellant and Red for Defendant/Respondent.
- Typed on A4 size paper with one side printing not exceeding 20 pages, Font size 12(Times New Roman) line spacing 1.5.
- The Memorial must contain:
- Title Page
- The Table of Contents.
- The Statement of Facts.
- The Statement of Issues.
- Summary of Arguments
- Argument Advanced
- The Prayer Clause
- Bibliography
- Name of the Participant and the College, only on the title page.
- Memorials not in the prescribed format shall be rejected.
- Memorials will not be returned to Participants.
Conduct of the Moot Court
- The lots will be drawn on the day of the competition at 8.30 a.m. Accordingly, teams shall represent the Plaintiffs/Appellant or Defendant/Respondent side.
- Only in the preliminary rounds, each team shall compulsorily present oral arguments from both sides-Plaintiffs/Appellant or Defendant/Respondent, in accordance with the lots chosen by the representative of the team at the Orientation Session.
- In the preliminary round, each team will be allotted 25 minutes (The Plaintiffs/Appellant and the Defendant/Respondent shall be allotted 10 minutes each, 2 minutes for judges Questions and 3 minutes for rebuttals. The rebuttal has to be done by one Mooter only and it cannot be claimed as a matter of right.
- The Final round will comprise of the top two teams of preliminary rounds and Plaintiffs/Appellant or Defendant/Respondent side will be decided by lots. In the final round, both teams shall get 30 minutes each. (Out of this 5 minutes shall be for rebuttals.)
- Host team shall not be considered for prizes (if it participates).
- Competition starts at 9.00 a.m. The teams are to report latest by 8.00 a.m. on 16th Feb 2019
- Separate lots shall be drawn for the Final round.

Note:
- The decision of the Judges shall be final and no disputes shall be entertained in this regard.
- In case of a tie, Memorial marks will be considered to determine the winner.
- The Organizers reserve the right to take appropriate action for any unethical, unprofessional and immoral conduct.
- The Organizers decision as regards the interpretation of rules, a situation which is not contemplated in the rules or any other matter related to the competition will be final.
