About the Organizer

The National Law School of India University, the nation’s premier law university, came into existence through a Notification under the National Law School of India University Act (Karnataka Act 22 of 1986).

The Centre for Environmental Law Education, Research and Advocacy (CEERA) established in 1997 enjoys the support of the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF), Government of Karnataka, the Bar and the Bench in India and several Institutions and Universities abroad.

About the Journal

The Journal of Law and Public Policy (JLPP) is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal, published by the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru. JLPP aims to be a forum that encourages students, academicians, administrators, practitioners and research scholars to come together for the cause of legal education and research and contribute scholarly pieces with a specific focus on issues that fall in the domain of law and public policy.

SPECIAL EDITION: India ranked 142nd in 2015 Ease of Doing Business (EDB) Rankings published on 29 October 2014 by the World Bank. Since then it has jumped 65 places to reach its current 77th position in 2019 rankings. As a result of continued efforts by the Government, India has improved its rank by 53 positions in the last two years and 65 positions in last four years.

The Government has carried out comprehensive and complex reforms such as easier procedure for filing GST returns, increase in the recovery rate under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016, reforms in contractual enforcement among others that has simplified the procedures for the conduct of business in the country.

NLSIU invites authors to contribute articles, research papers, case comments and book reviews on the theme of Ease of Doing Business: Law and Policy in India for the JLPP Vol VI. (2019). The broad themes on which submission are invited are:

  1. Rule of Law and Ease of Doing Business Indices
  2. Starting a Business, Incorporation and Registration
  3. Real Estate and Construction Permit
  4. Property Transactions and Registrations
  5. Getting Credit
  6. Protection of Founders/Startup
  7. Protection of Foreign Investment
  8. Import/Export Control & Policy
  9. Taxation Policy
  10. Policy for Reducing Cost and Time in Contractual Enforcement
  11. Protection of Creditor & Enterprises through IBC
  12. Make in India
  13. Skill India

Submission Registration and Application Details

The author/s can make submissions under the following heads:

  • Scholarly articles and research papers (5000-8000 words, inclusive of footnotes).
  • Short Articles (3000 -5000 words, inclusive of footnotes).
  • Case Comments, Legislative Briefs, Law Commission report/review (1500-2500 words, inclusive of footnotes).
  • Book Review (700-1500 words, inclusive of footnotes)

The deadline for accepting submissions is 30th November, 2019. Submissions are to be made only in electronic form. The same should be e-mailed to raghavparthasarathy[at]nls.ac.in or to ceera[at]nls.ac.in (in MS Word format) along with a covering letter addressed to Prof. (Dr.) Sairam Bhat (Coordinator & Chief Editor, Journal of Law and Public Policy, (2019)).

The cover letter should include:

  • Title of the Paper
  • Abstract (in 200 words)
  • Name of the Author
  • Designation
  • Institutional affiliation
  • Correspondence address

Co-authored papers should give full details about all the authors.

The article should contain a disclaimer stating that the submitted paper is original and is not been published or under consideration for publication elsewhere.

All citations shall be placed in footnotes and shall be in accordance with the Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, 20th Edition.

All submissions will go through an initial round of review by the editorial board and the selected pieces will subsequently be sent for peer review before finalization for publication. We encourage potential contributors to adhere to a uniform mode of citation throughout the whole work.
